Patek ref 3483 (1963)

Patek ref 3483 (1963)

A steel dress watch from Patek Philippe - rare, elegant, and quietly radical.

At first glance, the Ref. 3483 looks like a classic mid-century Calatrava: clean dial, slim baton hands, elegant proportions. But look closer and you’ll notice something unusual - the case is stainless steel. At a time when Patek Philippe almost exclusively cased its dress watches in gold or platinum, the 3483 was a rare exception, produced in extremely small numbers (estimates vary, but it’s believed around 50 pieces was the total production of this reference) and only produced between 1963 and 1965.

This watch is in excellent vintage condition; the case is sharp with no significant polishing. Dial shows light markings in places probably most noticeable between 11 and 12 hours, where there’s a slight mark. The watch is co-signed by Beyer, the Geneva retailer who have a very long association with Patek. The ref 3483 channels Patek’s signature minimalist design language into a pure time-only steel watch, the sort of quiet statement that collectors love: no fuss, no flourish, just timeless design in an unexpected material. Powered by the manually wound Patek 27SC movement, it’s a three hand design with centre seconds, the watch is a lovely expression of the qualities that Patek embodies.
